5th MEMORIAL CUP
5th MEMORIAL CUP
1st June, 2008
This annual tournament, organised by the IKO So-Honbu, gets bigger every year and is very popular amongst non-Kyokushin dojos as well. There are divisions for Kumite and Kata and the standard was excellent.
The following day was a Honbu-sanctioned Branch Chief technical seminar. With dan grades being handed out left, right and centre in the different groups, some even make themselves 8th and 9th dans!, Honbu has decided to hold a technical unification ‘grading’ to ensure the So-Honbu standard remains realistic.
On June 4, The ashes of Mrs Chiyako Oyama were interred next to those of Sosai at the Gokokuji Temple. The urn containing her ashes, which until nowhad been resting in the Honbu Dojo, were placed ceremoniously next to the ashes of Sosai. Branch Chiefs and members from around Japan and various parts of the world were invited to attend the ceremony. It was very moving and very beautiful.
