Experienced Guidance
To approach mastery you need to know where you are now, where you are going and the direction of an experienced teacher who has been there before.
Tournament Training and Preparation
Shihan Cameron Quinn’s track record of success both personally as a national champion and Australian representative tournament fighter, and as a teacher of some of the best Kyokushin fighters ever is world renowned. He was also the South Pacific and Australian Team Trainer during its most successful tournament period ever.
Garry O’Neill (l), 5 times Australian Champion, 4th, 6th World Championships, twice runner-up, All Japan Championships and Walter Schnaubelt (r), 7 times Australian Champion and winner of Tameshiwari Prize, 6th World Championships. Both former uchi-deshi of Shihan Cameron Quinn.
Kata Bunkai, Cross Training and Technique Application
Cameron is renowned for his depth of knowledge and experience in the study of kata, grappling application of karate and cross training experience. He has trained with some of the world’s best grapplers, including Carlos Gracie Jr, Gene LeBell, the Machado brothers, John Donehue, Cris Brown (5 times Olympic wrestler), Rico Chippiarelli, Dan Henderson, Frank Trigg and Randy Couture.
Cameron’s open-door policy has meant he has always had a great working relationship with teachers and dojos of other styles and arts and that continues today. Yet at the center of his training is his very strong sense of loyalty to Sosai Mas Oyama and his creation, Kyokushin Karate. “Loyalty is the highest law.”

Kyokushin Karate
Over a period of 38 years in Kyokushin Karate, Shihan Cameron has traveled widely, training and teaching on every continent (except Antarctica). He first lived in Japan for one year in 1976, training at the Kyokushin Honbu under Sosai Mas Oyama. He remained at Honbu for three months in 1979 as an uchi-deshi under Sosai Oyama and returned again to Japan in 1985 for seven months.
After his experiences in Japan Cameron was made Branch Chief of Queensland in 1989 and in the same year began Australia’s first full-time uchi-deshi program, producing many successful champions including Walter Schnaubelt and Garry O’Neill. Cameron continues to return every year to the original Honbu Dojo of Sosai Mas Oyama in Ikebukuro, the spiritual home of Kyokushin.
